Do Jamaican Book Stores want to help Jamaican Comic Book Artists? Not sure....
Does Jamaica need a comic book industry? franchise? or brand?...I honestly think so, Jamaican can preserve an entire generation through comic books, and art on a whole.
I Daniel Johnson have set out on a Journey to create Jamaica's first comic/manga brand name company that produces manga/comic books, and as expected it isn't an easy feat to achieve the first phase of my objective, which is to get my Jamaican made manga into a book store.
but i have found that its easier to get your manga /comic books to you audience by publishing your work as an ebook on Amazon or LuLu which are two great tools for self publishing, but what exactly is an ebook? or rather how do you make an ebook? for something like a Manga or Comic book this will require software for converting your digital images into a format like PDF or CBR file.
I actually went the way of the PDF with my manga "DarkRift Chronicles-Genisis" and took it the extra step and made it into an interactive PDF so now it not only is formatted to the ebook standard it is also interactive meaning in my case the pages will turn like that of a actual book when skip through.....its even better when reading on an Ipad or kindle. i believe this will enhance the user experience so i do suggest you watch my upcoming tutorial on how to make an interactive PDF, you will find the link to my page at the end of this blog.
So i made my first interactive ebook, what next? i want to sell it right? do i have to sell it or should i give it away?....well i am doing both at the moment because i think its better to create a returning fan than trying to create a customer....do you agree with me on that? ok....so my website has a free download link to my first chapter and a paid version which aren't really different in terms of content but the paid version is interactive while the free version is a normal ebook this way i am pleasing both my supporters and my fans.
When i started out with my first manga was i thinking i would be giving away copies and selling at the same time? no...so what happened? i guess book stores and game stores said that: 1. there wouldn't be enough persons walking in to buy my manga, 2. the cover was not good enough. 3 not interested.
hmmmmmm ok book stores that wont stop me i said and that's what happened....i believe giving away copies and encouraging others to pass it on will eventually generate more interested comic/manga readers or just regular persons who are interested in your book, do you agree with me?
Do Jamaicans know where Manga came from and do they know where the first Comic Book was created?
Do they know about Korean Manga which is called Manhwa? now im thinking if i am having a warm time getting my book in a store when i say its a manga or a comic should i go to the next store telling them its a Manhwa or should i create something new? something that could set it apart in terms of branding something that sounds original to Jamaica.....maybe....but who would call a Jamaican Comic book a Jahmanga? I would....would you?
Stay tuned for more updates and my progress in creating a Brand Name in Jamiacan comics/manga/manhwa.
Jahmanga is what i plan to called the art itself.
